How much language in the world?

It's impossible to say exactly how many languages there are in the world. There's no universally agreed-upon definition of what constitutes a "language" versus a "dialect," and language use and evolution are constantly changing.

However, estimates range widely, with some sources saying there are:

* Around 7,000 languages: This is a commonly quoted figure, but it's important to note that it includes many languages with very few speakers.

* Over 10,000 languages: Some linguists believe that the number could be significantly higher, especially when considering less documented languages.

It's also worth noting that:

* Many languages are endangered: Some languages have only a handful of speakers left, and are facing extinction.

* New languages are emerging: As people move and interact, new languages can develop from existing ones.

So, while we can't give you a precise number, it's safe to say that the world is a remarkably diverse place when it comes to language!
