The maori word for nation or tribe?

The Māori word for nation is iwi.

While it's often translated as "tribe", iwi holds a much deeper meaning than just a group of people. It encompasses:

* Ancestry: Shared lineage and bloodline.

* Land: The territory traditionally associated with the iwi.

* Culture: Shared language, customs, values, and beliefs.

* Identity: A sense of belonging and unity.

So, while "tribe" can be a reasonable translation in some contexts, iwi represents something much more complex and multifaceted.
