What origin did the word tundra come from?

The word "tundra" comes from the Finnish word "tunturi", which means "treeless plain."

The Finnish language is spoken in Finland and parts of Sweden and Norway, where the tundra biome is present. The word was adopted into English in the 19th century, during the exploration and study of the Arctic regions.
