Where did the creole language Gullah endure longest?

The Gullah language, a creole language spoken by descendants of enslaved Africans in the southeastern United States, endured longest in the Sea Islands of South Carolina and Georgia.

These islands, isolated by their geography, provided a unique environment where Gullah culture and language thrived. The islands were largely untouched by the outside world, allowing the language to develop and persist without significant external influence.

While Gullah is still spoken in these areas, its use has been declining in recent decades due to factors like migration, urbanization, and the influence of standard English. However, efforts are underway to preserve and revitalize the language, including language immersion programs and cultural festivals.
