When did the word canoe come in English language?

The word "canoe" entered the English language in the 16th century.

It came from the Taino language of the indigenous people of the Caribbean, specifically from the word "canoa". The Spanish explorers who encountered the Taino people adopted the word and brought it back to Europe.

It's interesting to note that the word "canoe" actually predates the arrival of Europeans in the Americas. The Taino people had been using canoes for centuries before the first explorers reached their shores.
