Why were french settlers called acadians?

The French settlers in Acadia were called Acadians because:

* Acadia was the name given by the French to the region they colonized in what is now eastern Canada, including Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island, and parts of Maine.

* The term "Acadian" was derived from the Micmac word "Algonquin", which referred to the indigenous people of the region.

* The French settlers adopted this name for themselves, and it became the name for the French people who lived in Acadia.

So, "Acadian" is simply a geographic identifier for the French settlers in the region of Acadia.
