When did Cambodia become a french speaking country?

Cambodia has never been a French-speaking country.

While French was the official language of Cambodia during the French protectorate from 1863 to 1953, it never became the primary language of the population.

Khmer, the native language of Cambodia, has always been the dominant language. Although French left a mark on the Cambodian vocabulary and some aspects of society, it was never widely adopted as the language of everyday life.
