1. Angles: This tribe gave the language its name, "English." They settled in the eastern and northern parts of Britain.
2. Saxons: They settled in the southern and central parts of Britain, and their influence is evident in many English words.
3. Jutes: These tribes settled in the south-east of England, primarily in Kent. While their contributions were smaller compared to the Angles and Saxons, they left their mark on certain words and place names.
These three tribes, collectively known as the Anglo-Saxons, brought their own languages to Britain, which eventually merged and evolved into Old English.
