When was Hindi made the national language?

Hindi was not made the national language of India.

India has no official national language. The Constitution of India recognizes Hindi in Devanagari script as the official language of the Union Government, alongside English.

This means:

* Hindi is used in official government communication at the central level.

* English is also used in official government communication, primarily for inter-state communication and international affairs.

* States have their own official languages, which can be Hindi or other languages.

Therefore, while Hindi has a prominent position in India's official language policy, it's not the "national language" in the sense of being the sole official language.
