Where do the romany gypsies come from?

It's important to be mindful of terminology when discussing the Roma/Romany people. The term "gypsy" is considered outdated and often offensive, as it carries a history of prejudice and negative stereotypes.

The Roma people are an ethnic group with origins in the Indian subcontinent. They are believed to have migrated from the northwestern regions of India, specifically the Punjab and Rajasthan areas, sometime between the 10th and 12th centuries.

Their journey then took them westward through Persia and the Middle East, reaching Europe by the 14th century.

It's crucial to use respectful and accurate terminology when discussing the Roma people. Instead of "gypsy," use "Roma," "Romany," or "Romani people" – all of which are considered more appropriate and respectful.
