Here's why:
* Persian was the language of administration: It had been the dominant language of administration in the Mughal Empire since its inception.
* Akbar's patronage: Akbar himself was fluent in Persian and actively encouraged its use at court. He even had numerous Persian literary works commissioned.
* Cultural influence: Persian culture and language had a significant influence on the Mughal court, making Persian the language of diplomacy, literature, and scholarship.
While Persian was the dominant language, other languages were also spoken at court:
* Hindi: The language of the common people was spoken by many courtiers, particularly those from North India.
* Arabic: Important for religious and scholarly purposes.
* Turkish: Used by some of the Turkic soldiers and nobles.
However, Persian remained the official language used for communication, record keeping, and court proceedings throughout Akbar's reign.
