What language did the mesoamericans speak?

There wasn't one single language spoken by the Mesoamericans. They actually spoke a wide variety of languages, belonging to different language families. Some of the most prominent and well-known include:

Maya: A language family spoken by various groups in the Yucatan Peninsula and surrounding areas. The modern Maya languages are still spoken by millions of people today.

Nahuatl: The language of the Aztecs, also known as the Mexica. Nahuatl was a very influential language, spoken across much of central Mexico and used as an administrative language by the Aztecs.

Mixtec: Spoken by the Mixtec people, who inhabited a large region in southwestern Mexico.

Zapotec: Spoken by the Zapotec people, who resided in Oaxaca, Mexico.

Otomanguean: A large language family that includes many languages spoken in central Mexico, including Otomi, Mixtec, Zapotec, and others.

Uto-Aztecan: Another major language family, which includes Nahuatl, as well as languages spoken in the Southwestern United States.

Totonac: A language spoken by the Totonac people, who lived in the Veracruz region of Mexico.

This is just a partial list, as many other languages were spoken by different Mesoamerican cultures. The diversity of languages reflected the diverse cultures and histories of the region.
