What country started English?

The origins of the English language are complex, but it's generally considered to have evolved from Old English, which itself was brought to the British Isles by Anglo-Saxon settlers from present-day Germany and Denmark around the 5th century AD.

So, while there's no single country that "started" English, the roots of the language lie in the Germanic tribes of what is now Germany and Denmark.
