When did the US adopt English as Official Language?

The United States has never officially adopted English as its official language.

While English is the dominant language spoken in the US, there is no federal law or constitutional amendment that designates it as the official language.

There have been numerous attempts to make English the official language, but none have succeeded at the federal level. Some states have adopted English as their official language, but these laws are largely symbolic and don't significantly impact how government functions.
