The most famous language written in cuneiform is Akkadian, a Semitic language spoken in ancient Mesopotamia. However, cuneiform was also used to write:
* Sumerian, the language of the ancient Sumerian civilization, which predated Akkadian.
* Elamite, a language spoken in ancient Elam, a region to the east of Mesopotamia.
* Hittite, an Indo-European language spoken in Anatolia (modern Turkey).
* Hurrian, a language spoken in the Zagros Mountains.
* Urartian, a language spoken in the Armenian Highlands.
* Old Persian, the language of the Achaemenid Empire.
And many others!
So, to be precise, it's more accurate to say that cuneiform was used to write many different languages.
