Where did the Portuguese first settled at?

The Portuguese first settled in Madeira, an archipelago in the North Atlantic Ocean, in 1419.

They were led by João Gonçalves Zarco and Tristan Vaz Teixeira. The islands were uninhabited at the time, and the Portuguese established a permanent settlement.

This marked the beginning of Portuguese exploration and colonization, which would eventually lead to the establishment of a vast empire across the globe.
