From what language does the word chipotle come from?

The word "chipotle" comes from the Nahuatl language, spoken by the Aztec people of Mexico.

It's a combination of two Nahuatl words:

* "chil" meaning "chili" or "pepper"

* "poctli" meaning "smoked"

So, "chipotle" literally means "smoked chili pepper".
