Koine Greek was a common, simplified form of Greek that emerged during the reign of Alexander the Great and became the language of administration, commerce, and scholarship throughout the Hellenistic world. It was used by the ruling class, merchants, intellectuals, and even ordinary people across a vast geographical area, from Egypt to Anatolia to Greece.
While other languages continued to be spoken in various regions, Koine Greek served as the lingua franca (common language) that facilitated communication and cultural exchange throughout the Hellenistic world.
