What languages are derived from the German language?

There are no languages directly derived from German in the way that, say, Spanish and Portuguese are derived from Latin.

However, German has influenced the development of many languages:

* High German: This is the standard language of Germany and Austria, and has influenced the development of other German dialects, as well as Yiddish, which is a Jewish language based on Middle High German.

* Low German: This group of dialects is spoken in northern Germany, and has influenced the development of Frisian, a language spoken in the Netherlands and Germany.

* English: While English is ultimately derived from Old English, which itself is a Germanic language, it has been heavily influenced by German through words borrowed into English during the Middle Ages and Renaissance.

* Scandinavian languages: German has had some influence on the development of the Scandinavian languages, especially through the borrowing of words related to religion and law.

* Pennsylvania Dutch: This language, spoken in the United States, is a dialect of German that was brought to America by immigrants in the 18th century.

It's important to remember that language evolution is a complex process, and influence doesn't necessarily mean derivation. While German has influenced these languages, they are not directly descended from it.
