What language did the Saxons speak?

The Saxons spoke Old Saxon, a language that was part of the West Germanic branch of the Indo-European language family.

It was closely related to other Germanic languages spoken in the region, like Old English and Old Frisian. While Old Saxon is no longer spoken, its influence can still be seen in modern German, Dutch, and English.
