What language did Saint Stephen speak?

Saint Stephen, the first Christian martyr, lived in Jerusalem in the 1st century AD. Therefore, he most likely spoke Koine Greek, the common language of the Roman Empire at that time.

While Hebrew was certainly spoken in Jerusalem, Koine Greek was the language of trade, administration, and the educated elite throughout the Roman world. It is highly likely that Stephen, as a devout Jew and early Christian leader, would have been fluent in Greek.

We see evidence of this in the Book of Acts, where Stephen is described as delivering a passionate speech in Greek, defending his faith to the Sanhedrin.
