Which English town was the viking capital?

There wasn't a single English town that served as a Viking capital. Vikings never established a permanent capital city in England.

They did, however, establish a significant presence in several areas of England:

* York: This was the most important Viking stronghold in England, ruled by the Viking King Jórvík (York) for several decades. It became a major center of trade and culture.

* Jarrow: This was a key Viking base in the north of England, from which they launched raids and expeditions.

* Other settlements: Vikings also settled in other areas, including the Danelaw (a region of England under Viking rule), and left their mark on places like Lincoln, Nottingham, and Leicester.

It's important to remember that Viking settlements in England were more focused on strategic locations for trade, raiding, and controlling specific regions rather than establishing a single centralized capital city.
