Where does the word parka originate?

The word "parka" comes from the Yupik language of Alaska and the Arctic regions of Canada. It derives from the word "pàrka", meaning "hooded garment", and was originally used to refer to the traditional hooded, fur-lined garments worn by Inuit and Yupik people.

The word "parka" was adopted into English in the early 20th century, becoming a general term for any warm, hooded jacket.
