Where did rutabagas originate from?

Rutabagas originated in Scandinavia, specifically in the region that encompasses Sweden and Denmark.

While it's difficult to pinpoint the exact origin, it's believed that they are a hybrid of turnips (Brassica rapa) and cabbages (Brassica oleracea). This hybridization likely occurred sometime in the 17th century.
