What language did the Greeks write in?

The ancient Greeks wrote in Ancient Greek.

While this might seem obvious, it's important to remember that Ancient Greek is not the same as Modern Greek, which is the language spoken in Greece today. Ancient Greek is a distinct language, with its own grammar, vocabulary, and writing system.

There were actually several dialects of Ancient Greek, including:

* Attic: This was the dialect of Athens, the most influential city-state in ancient Greece.

* Ionic: Used in Ionia, a region in Asia Minor.

* Doric: Spoken in the Peloponnese and other parts of Greece.

* Aeolic: Used in Boeotia and other regions.

Although there were variations between these dialects, they were all mutually intelligible to some degree.
