What language do sami people talk?

The Sami people have their own distinct languages, collectively known as Sami languages. They are part of the Uralic language family, specifically the Uralic > Permian > Finnic branch. There are eleven recognized Sami languages:

* Northern Sami (the most spoken)

* Lule Sami

* Pite Sami

* Ume Sami

* Inari Sami

* Skolt Sami

* Ter Sami

* Southern Sami

* Umë Sami

* Akkala Sami

* Kem Sami (extinct)

It's important to note that:

* Not all Sami people speak the same language. They are spread across a wide geographical area, and each region has its own language.

* Many Sami people are bilingual or multilingual, speaking Sami and one or more other languages, such as Norwegian, Swedish, Finnish or Russian.

* The number of speakers of Sami languages is declining, as many young Sami people only learn the dominant languages of their respective countries. Efforts are being made to revitalize Sami languages and preserve their cultural heritage.
