What greeting do you use in Italian after 12 pm and before 6 pm?

The most common greeting in Italian between 12 pm and 6 pm is "Buongiorno". It literally translates to "good day" and is used both in the morning and afternoon.

While technically "buongiorno" can be used until evening, you might hear people say "Buon pomeriggio" (good afternoon) more often after 2 pm or 3 pm.

However, "buongiorno" is perfectly acceptable and understood throughout the entire period.
