What is quality in Sanskrit?

The Sanskrit word for "quality" is गुण (guṇa).

It's a very important concept in Hinduism and Indian philosophy, as it refers to the inherent qualities of something or someone. In the context of yoga and Indian philosophy, it often refers to the three primary qualities:

* सत्त्व (sattva) - Goodness, purity, balance, harmony, clarity

* रजस् (rajas) - Passion, activity, movement, energy, ambition

* तमस् (tamas) - Inertia, darkness, ignorance, delusion, attachment

These three qualities are constantly interacting and influencing everything in the universe, including humans.

However, the word "guṇa" can also be used in a more general sense to refer to any quality, positive or negative. For example, you might say "रामस्य गुणाः बहवः सन्ति" (rāmasya guṇāḥ bahuvaḥ santi) which means "Rama has many good qualities."

So, "guṇa" is a versatile word with a lot of depth and meaning in Sanskrit.
