What does the name lanina mean?

"La Niña" is a Spanish phrase that means "the girl" or "the little girl".

It's used to describe a climate pattern in the Pacific Ocean that is the opposite of El Niño. Just like El Niño is named after the Christ Child, La Niña is named after the baby Jesus' mother, "La Niña María" (Mary).
