What part of speech is further?

"Further" can be two different parts of speech, depending on its use:

1. Adverb: When used to describe the degree or extent of something, it's an adverb.

* Example: "They walked further down the road."

2. Adjective: When used to describe something as being more distant or advanced, it's an adjective.

* Example: "The further we walked, the more beautiful the scenery became."

Important Note: The word "further" is often confused with "farther". "Farther" is used to describe physical distance, while "further" can refer to both physical distance and a more abstract sense of advancement.
