Is speaking English inherited or learned?

Speaking English is learned.

Here's why:

* Biological Basis: While humans are born with the capacity for language, the specific language they learn is entirely dependent on their environment.

* Environmental Influence: We learn English (or any language) by being exposed to it from our families, communities, and through education.

* No Genetic Code: There's no gene for speaking English. Our DNA doesn't contain instructions for language.

While some people may be naturally more inclined to pick up languages quickly, the actual language they learn is determined by the environment they grow up in.
