What part of speech is account?

"Account" can be several parts of speech depending on how it's used in a sentence:

* Noun: This is the most common use. It refers to a record of financial transactions, a narrative or description of an event, or a reason or explanation.

* Example: "I opened a bank account."

* Example: "The journalist gave an account of the crime."

* Verb: It means to consider or regard something in a particular way.

* Example: "He accounted for his absence by saying he was sick."

* Adjective: While less common, it can be used as an adjective meaning "responsible" or "answerable".

* Example: "The manager was held accountable for the mistake."

To determine the part of speech, you need to look at its function within the sentence.
