Indirect characterization requires the reader to?

Indirect characterization requires the reader to infer a character's traits and personality based on:

* Their actions: What a character does reveals a lot about them.

* Their words: The way a character speaks, the words they choose, and their tone can be very telling.

* Their thoughts and feelings: If the story delves into a character's inner world, we can gain insight into their motivations and personality.

* Their appearance: While not always indicative of character, appearance can sometimes be a clue.

* How other characters react to them: What others say about a character, how they treat them, and their overall attitude can provide valuable information.

Essentially, indirect characterization is like solving a puzzle. The author provides clues, and it's the reader's job to put them together and form an understanding of the character.
