What is possesive form?

The possessive form in English shows ownership or belonging. It tells us who or what something belongs to. There are two main ways to form the possessive:

1. Using an apostrophe 's'

* Singular nouns: Add 's to the end of the noun.

* Example: the cat's tail, the boy's bike, the company's profits.

* Plural nouns ending in 's': Add just an apostrophe.

* Example: the cats' food, the girls' dresses, the companies' losses.

* Plural nouns NOT ending in 's': Add 's.

* Example: the children's toys, the men's club, the women's rights.

2. Using the word "of"

This is used for phrases or longer noun groups.

* Example: the roof of the house, the color of the sky, the bark of the dog.

Important notes:

* Possessive pronouns like "mine", "yours", "his", "hers", "its", "ours", and "theirs" show possession without an apostrophe.

* Double possessive: Sometimes you can use both "of" and an apostrophe. This is used when a noun is modified by a possessive pronoun.

* Example: a friend of mine's (meaning, one of my friends)
