Is land a transitive or intransitive verb?

"Land" is not a verb. It's a noun, meaning a portion of the Earth's surface, or a country or territory.

However, "land" can also be used as a verb, meaning to come to rest on the ground or to arrive at a destination, especially after a journey. In this case, "land" can be either transitive or intransitive:

Transitive:

* Land the plane: The pilot landed the plane safely. (Direct object: the plane)

* Land a job: She managed to land a great job after graduation. (Direct object: the job)

Intransitive:

* The plane landed safely. (No direct object)

* The bird landed on the tree branch. (The verb "landed" is not directly acting on an object. The prepositional phrase "on the tree branch" describes the location of landing.)
