What is subtitle?

A subtitle can have two main meanings:

1. Text displayed on the screen:

This is the most common meaning. A subtitle is a textual translation of the dialogue in a film, television show, or other media. It's displayed at the bottom of the screen and helps viewers understand what is being said, especially if the original audio is in a different language.

2. A secondary title:

This applies to books, articles, or other written works. A subtitle is a short phrase that clarifies or expands on the main title. It can give more information about the topic or theme of the work, or provide a specific context.

Here are some examples:

Subtitle as text on screen:

* A film with dialogue in Spanish, but the subtitles translate it into English.

* A documentary with subtitles that provide additional information about the topic.

* A music video with subtitles that display the lyrics.

Subtitle as secondary title:

* Book Title: "The Lord of the Rings" Subtitle: "The Fellowship of the Ring"

* Article Title: "Climate Change" Subtitle: "The Science and the Politics"

In both cases, a subtitle serves the purpose of providing additional information or context to the viewer or reader.
