Is reading a verb or adjective?

"Reading" is a verb.

Here's why:

* It describes an action: Reading is the act of looking at and understanding written words.

* It can be used in sentences with subjects and objects: "I am reading a book." "He reads the newspaper every morning."

While "readable" is an adjective (describing something that is easy to read), "reading" itself is an action word.
