Who is the subject in a sentence?

The subject in a sentence is the noun or pronoun that performs the action of the verb. It's the who or what the sentence is about.

Here are some examples:

* The cat chased the mouse. (Subject = "The cat")

* She went to the store. (Subject = "She")

* The sun shines brightly. (Subject = "The sun")

* John and Mary are best friends. (Subject = "John and Mary")

How to find the subject:

1. Identify the verb: What action is happening in the sentence?

2. Ask yourself "who" or "what" is doing the verb: The answer is your subject.

Important notes:

* The subject usually comes before the verb in a sentence.

* The subject can be one word or multiple words.

* Sentences can have compound subjects, where two or more nouns or pronouns work together to perform the verb.
