What is a subject and predicate?

A subject and predicate are the two main parts of a sentence.

* Subject: The subject is the who or what the sentence is about. It is the person, place, thing, or idea that performs the action of the verb.

* Predicate: The predicate is the part of the sentence that tells us something about the subject. It includes the verb and any other words that describe or modify the verb.

Here's a simple breakdown:

* Subject: The cat

* Predicate: is sleeping on the rug.

Let's break it down further:

* Subject: The cat

* Verb: is sleeping

* Rest of the predicate: on the rug.

Here are some more examples:

* Subject: The students

* Predicate: are studying for their exams.

* Subject: The sun

* Predicate: is shining brightly.

* Subject: My favorite food

* Predicate: is pizza.

Important note: Every complete sentence must have a subject and a predicate.
