Who invented dictionary?

It's tricky to pinpoint one single inventor of the dictionary. Here's why:

* Dictionaries evolved gradually: The concept of organizing words and their meanings has existed for centuries. Ancient civilizations like the Babylonians, Greeks, and Romans created lists of words and their definitions.

* Early "dictionaries" were specialized: They focused on particular subjects like medicine or law.

* Printing Press's impact: The invention of the printing press in the 15th century made it easier to create and distribute dictionaries more widely.

Some key figures in the history of dictionaries:

* Gaius Julius Caesar: Compiled a list of Latin words with their meanings for his soldiers.

* Suetonius: A Roman historian who wrote a dictionary of Latin words and phrases.

* Robert Cawdrey: Published the first English dictionary, *A Table Alphabeticall of Hard Words*, in 1604.

* Samuel Johnson: Published his influential *Dictionary of the English Language* in 1755, which standardized spelling and grammar for centuries.

Therefore, while there is no single "inventor," these individuals played significant roles in the development and evolution of dictionaries.
